SUKKUR: On an ongoing crackdown against organized smuggling, the Regional Custom office Sukkur seized 7.0 tons of smuggled betel nut along with transporting vehicle worth Rs60 million.

Information was shared through Collector Hyderabad Sadiqullah Khan that smuggling of betel nuts concealed under fresh fruit will be attempted. Additional Collector Asim Rehman constituted a team under command of Assistant Collector Sukkur Tariq Hussain, which recovered 7.0 tons of betel nuts worth Rs60 million along with vehicle.

The Collector appreciated the efforts of the staff.

On the directives of Member Customs Tariq Huda i, vigilance has been tightened on routes leading to Punjab via Sukkur and the flow of smuggled goods to upcountry has been restricted to a major extent.

Customs formations are working with extra zeal and dedication to curb the menace of smuggling.

It is to mention that the MCC Hyderabad in its Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) have been successful in targeted raids against drugs and dumps of contraband goods.
