KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan on Wednesday ordered issuance of contempt notices to Director General, Intellectual Property Rights and Collector Customs Appraisement, East for December14.

The bench was hearing a contempt of court application filed by Al-Muqabil company which said that despite court orders for release of empty bottles imported by it within 15 days.

The counsel for importer filing the contempt application maintained that a month has passed but the alleged contemnors are not implementing the orders of the court.

The counsel from Franklin Law Associates submitted that as per record, DG IPR sent a mail to Dabur Vatika representative asking him to file a complaint against the petitioner.

The DG IPR can take cognizance of a violation on complaint only and no suo motu powers are available to him, He also submitted the Dabur Vatika is not registered in Pakistan and hence order taken from another SHC bench at the back of the petitioner is illegal and void and amount to blackmailing.

The bench after hearing ordered personal appearance of the DG IPR and Collector Custom East before it on Dec 14.
