KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Yousuf Ali Saeed on Wednesday fixed hearing of a constitution petition filed by M/s Shazak Multinational and Ors, importers of toilet soap for Friday.

The bench earlier expressed disappointment and anger over delay in release of detained consignments after Ghulamullah Shaikh advocate of Franklin Law Associates informed the bench that custom officials have released the consignments against which GD’s have been filed while continue to detain consignments brought under Bill of Landing.

This was in derogation of dicta laid down by the High Court as in dozens of constitutional petitions filed and decided earlier by SHC, such consignments were also ordered to be released.

Despite reference to identical cases and seeking similar treatment, custom officials were asked to release the consignments imported  on the basis of Bill of Landing, they are engineering a delay, the counsel submitted.

The bench perusing the record agreeing with the arguments by the counsel for petitioners, expressing anguish fixed the next hearing on Friday when custom officials were asked to explain the non releaseof consignments.
