KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh on Friday directed the Pakistan Customs, Port Qasim Collectorate to file details of the alleged consignments cleared by abusing “Green Channel” facility.

The bench comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Arshad Hussain Khan was hearing a constitution petition filed by Khurram Enterprises and others who moved the court over detention of consignments imported by them and presently lying at the Port Muhammad Bin Qasim (PMBQ).

The custom officials represented by Masooda Siraj advocate assisted by Sardar Zafar Hussain advocate submitted that the national coffers were denied of huge amount in taxes, custom duty and other levies as the petitioner and other importers abused the facility of speedy clearance. She submitted that during inspection of a consignment it was found that instead of declared scrap material, the consignment contained Miscelaenous items which carry big amount of duty and taxes.

The  bench asked the department to submit details of the consignments cleared by abusing the facility of green channel while Custom officials were also asked to inspect the consignments lying at the court for finding out that whether the consignments contained scrap or other items attracting huge duty and taxes.

The bench with above directions fixed May 26 for further proceedings in the case.
