KARACHI: MCC Port Qasim is conducting auction of lots imported but were not cleared or removed. The auction is continuing on daily basis and goods including scrap, cloth, cosmetics, electronics, PVC, used machinery and equipment, vehicles, trucks, rubber, tyres, iron & steel etc are being disposed of.
Collector Port Qasim Surayya Ahmed Butt formed a committee to compile the data that which imported/lots were lying abandoned at the port since 2007.
The team comprising Additional Collector Nayyar Shafique, Deputy Collector Fazli Shakoor and Principal Appraiser Babar Kabir have scrutinized the lots and compiled the data. These lots are being re-examined and then the same would be put on auction.
According to details, one lot of wooden furniture is lying abandoned since, 2006; four lots since 2007, 42 since 2008, 54 since 2009, 74 lots since 2010, 44 lots were imported in 2011, 45 lots landed in 2012, 180 lots are lying abandoned since 2013; 202 lots arrived in 2014 and were not cleared/removed while 263 lots which arrived in 2015 have been put on auction at QICT.
According to section 82 of the Customs Act, a notice is served on the importer if a consignment is not cleared within 20 days and the consignment is tagged by the terminal operator. After the lapse of one month from arrival, the consignment is put on auction.
