KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate of Customs (MCC) Preventive has lodged an FIR against several accused including lawyers for resisting arrest of their client, named Imran Khan.
The copy of FIR with a covering letter has been dispatched to police high-ups as well as SHO of Preedy Police Station for taking appropriate action accordingly and as per law.
According to the details of the case, MCC Preventive received a letter from Customs Intelligence Peshawar along with non-bail-able warrants for arrest of one Imran Khan and others issued by Customs Court Peshawar.
MCC Preventive SPO Azhar Mehdi to arrest the four accused against whom warrants had been received. Meanwhile sources informed that one of the accused persons namely Imran Khan S/o Ali Akbar is being produced before the Honorable Court of Special Judge (Customs & Taxation) Karachi for confirmation of his protective bail.
In order to apprehend the above named accused, a team of officers comprising of Allah Wasava Zubair, Zulfigar Ali Shaikh (IPS), Aijaz Ali Khoso, S. Azhar Mehdi (SPO) and Akbar Ahmed (PO) was constituted who swiftly moved to the Customs Court for apprehension of the accused under warrant.
The accused named above was found present in the Court, however, the team kept waiting outside the Court premises for some time. Sooner the accused along with a number of advocates came out of the Customs Court after having been confirmed his bail in other crimes.
In the meantime, the team confronted him and informed him about his arrest in Non-Bailable Warrant and he was taken into custody by Customs.
Meanwhile, the group of people wearing black jackets and white shirts / trousers lead by accused Aijaz Hussain started shouting, abusing and physically assaulting the Customs staff with intention to prevent the apprehension of accused.
The Customs staff being professionally sound tolerated and tried their level best to cool them and appraise them about the sensitivity of the issue, legal obligations and level of compliance of the orders of Honorable Court but they were too hostile and indulged in obstruction, hindrance in the discharge of official duty.
Soon after, the above mentioned group lodged an FIR at Preedy Police Station against three SPOs Akber Ahmed, Ejaz Khoso, Azhar Mehdi and Inspector Zubair Allahwasaya that these officials had manhandled the lawyers.
The officials have secured protective bail but due to this, investigations into the pilferage of transshipment cargo and the accused were caught red handed.
Chief Collector Zahid Khokhar, Collector Preventive Tariq Huda and Additional Collector would try to meet Chief Justice Sindh and would request the Chief Justice that a transparent inquiry into the issue should be conducted.
Sources said that this episode at the Court was staged to divert the attention of Anti-Smuggling-Organization from the ongoing campaign against the main players of the transshipment cargo pilferage scam, so that the accused already identified and involved could leave the country.
It was known that there is a group of lawyers who hire low grade lawyers on daily wage basis to create a scene to avoid arrest of the client through violence.
