KARACHI: MCC Exports Karachi has seized 1200 pieces of donkey hides, which were being exported in the garb of goat hair.
Chief Collector Enforcement Zahid Khokhar informed that M/s Nival International filed a Goods Declaration through their clearing agent M/s Export Services for export of goat hair and wet slated dry skin and sought shipment after availing the facility of automated Self.
The consignment was examined and found that goods were Salted Dried Donkey Hides. The export of donkey hides, have been banned by Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet. Moreover, the weight of the consignment was 20 percent less than declared weight.
Khokhar said that the directives of the ECC communicated through the Ministry had been implemented in spirit and export collectorates were directed to keep strict vigilance over hides export as donkey hides could be exported mis-declared as hides or animal hair.
Collector Exports Saifuddin Junejo and Additional Collector Shahab Imam had tightened the examination. Deputy Collector Jam Imran on information selected the consignment for physical examination in order to check the veracity of information.The exporter and clearing agent had tried to hoodwink the automated self clearance and assessment system and tried to export banned goods in the garb of Wet Salted Dry Skin by not mentioning the specie of the skin and less weight.
He said that and per law and rules, exporter and clearing agent are bound to file goods declaration to Customs containing correct and complete particulars of the goods.
Had the goods were not detected at the examination stage, the exporter/clearing agent could have successes to export banned goods, which was an offense. Exporter also under-declared the weight, which is also an offence.
A seizure report in this regard is prepared and forwarded to the Adjudication authority for initiation of adjudication proceedings.
