KARACHI: Over 150 containers of fruits and dry fruits are stuck at Pakistan-Afghanistan border of Chaman and Torkham as Import Policy Order (IPO) bars entry of fruits/dry fruits into the country without PPRO (Quarantine) certification.

Traders said the trucks were stuck for the last five days and if the issue was not resolved, the commodity would start perishing causing huge losses to the importers.

An official said Pakistan Customs was bound to enforce and implement the provisions of Import Policy Order (IPO) and the goods would not be cleared for onward movement into the country without the required certification.

Sources said Ministry of Commerce was likely to issue some amendment into the policy order, which may allow clearance of the fruit.
