ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Communications has constituted an inter-ministerial working group on logistics and transport facilitation entrusted to develop National Logistics and Freight Transport Policy.
The move is aimed at transforming the prevalent obsolete structure with state of the art system comprising of mechanisms to ensure efficient flow of goods from manufacturers to the end consumers both at the national and international level.
All the stake holders from public and private sector are taken on board to be a part of this group and give their valuable input in the consultation process, Press Information Department (PID) reported.
The working group is entrusted to carry out consultation on institutional structures to facilitate logistics, transport and trade;
International best practices and standards requisite for improved trade velocity, including standards for vehicles, processes and drivers;
Improvements in supply chain of goods both within Pakistan and with international trade partners;
Developing a policy level regulatory framework for logistics and transport sector;
Making recommendations for vehicle renewal program where the fleet already in use will be updated to increase the efficiency;
Development of National Logistics and Freight Transport Policy;
Compilation of rules and regulations for freight and logistics sector and to help the truck drivers understand safe driving and the importance of their diligence in supply chain development of pamphlets and trainings.
