Collectorate of Customs Airports, Karachi foiled an attempt to illegally carry a substantial amount of foreign and local currency out of the country at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi. At approximately 10:00 PM, Customs staff deployed at the International Departures, with the assistance of Airport Security Force(ASF) personnel, intercepted a family of ‘six passengers’ travelling to ‘Dubai’ on Airblue flight PA-110. The passengers were intercepted after the scanning system indicated the presence of a considerable quantity of currency in their baggage. During a detailed examination conducted at the Joint Examination Counter, the following currency was recovered:

PKR 950,000
The passengers had not declared any currency at the Customs Currency Declaration Counter before proceeding for departure. The recovered amounts were also found to be in excess of the permissible limits prescribed by the State Bank of Pakistan for passengers travelling abroad. The undeclared currency has accordingly been seized under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1969, and further investigation is underway.
