KARACHI: Pakistan Customs was given two week’s time to get restraining order from Federal Constitutional Court in an appeal filed against an order of constitutional bench of High Court of Sindh which allowed a petition filed by Messer’s Al-Rahim Trading Company, Karachi. The division bench however ordered continuation of contempt proceedings in the mean while fixing July 22 as next date of hearing.
The controversy pertains to an alleged huge HSD smuggling scam detected by Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Karachi in which auction documents were used several times to take out seized HSD in the name of Pakistan Coast Guards.
The SHC bench earlier had allowed a petition by Al Rahim on ground that FIR was lodged after a delay of four days and seizure and other acts were conducted by ASO without obtaining search warrant from a Magistrate, a mandatory condition under section 162 of the Customs Act.

Collector Customs Umer Shafique is monitoring the case as it involves government agencies and abuse of auction generated documents for illegal storage and removal of seized HSD re-using auctions documents. The HSD taken out is in millions litre.
