ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially designated Railway Station Taftan as a land customs station, paving the way for formal import and export operations at the strategically located border crossing with Iran.
The declaration, issued under S.R.O. 1055(I)/2026 and signed by Zubair Shah, Secretary (Law & Procedure), invokes powers under clauses (b) and (c) of Section 9 read with clauses (a) and (b) of Section 10 of the Customs Act, 1969.
A New Gateway for Cross-Border Trade
The designated customs zone covers 11.75 acres of land at the Taftan railway station, situated along Pakistan’s western border in Balochistan. The station will now serve as an official point for the loading, unloading, and clearance of goods imported into or exported from Pakistan.
The boundaries of the customs station are defined by four coordinates:
North: Custom House, Pakistan House, and AC Office
South: FC Headquarters at the Iran Border
West: The Iran Border itself
East: The Civilian/Railway Colony
Strategic Significance
Taftan is Pakistan’s primary land border crossing with Iran and a key node on potential regional trade corridors. Formalising the railway station as a customs point is expected to streamline cargo processing, improve revenue collection, and bring greater regulatory oversight to goods crossing one of Pakistan’s busiest western border posts.
The move comes as Pakistan continues efforts to boost legal cross-border trade and curb smuggling along the Balochistan frontier.
The notification, filed under C. No. 11(7)L&P/2026, takes immediate effect.
