KARACHI: Acting on credible intelligence, the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Karachi successfully carried out a major anti-smuggling operation, resulting in the recovery of a substantial quantity of foreign liquor.

The operation was initiated when Collector Customs (Enforcement) Karachi, Mr. Umar Shafiq, received reliable information regarding the presence of smuggled liquor in a bungalow near Badr Commercial, DHA Karachi. The information was immediately conveyed by Additional Collector Mr. Yasir Wahab Kalwar to Assistant Collector, Anti-Smuggling Organization, Mr. Tofiq Ahmed, for prompt action.

Under the supervision of Mr. Rana Rashid Mahmood, IPS, a raiding team was formed, comprising Preventive Officers Mr. Muhammad Mohsin and Mr. Imran Maqsood along with supporting staff. The team raided the identified bungalow.

Exercising powers under Section 163 of the Customs Act, 1969, the bungalow was thoroughly searched. During the search, cartons of foreign liquor and wine were recovered, hidden inside cupboards and cabinets.

No individual came forward to claim ownership of the seized goods, nor were any legal documents produced to establish lawful import, ownership, or storage of the items.

Considering the prohibited nature of the goods, all recovered items were taken into Customs custody and transferred to the State Warehouse, Keamari Karachi, for safekeeping and further legal proceedings.

Upon detailed examination, a total of 725 bottles of foreign liquor and wine were recovered, including well-known brands such as Ballantine’s, Camino de Chile, Absolut Vodka, Red Label, Jack Daniel’s, Black Ruby, Black Rum, and others.

The seized goods have been formally confiscated under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1969, while further legal action is underway.

The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Karachi remains committed to eliminating smuggling and ensuring strict enforcement of the law.
