Karachi: In a dramatic 24-hour span, Karachi’s Customs Enforcement teams thwarted two high-value smuggling operations, seizing narcotics and contraband worth more than Rs. 137 million.

Midnight Drug Bust in Mochko Acting on verified intelligence, the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) intercepted a Lexus (registration number DD-212) near Mochko between the night of March 3 and 4. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed three suitcases and a bag hidden in the hatchback. Inside were 200 packets of hashish, each weighing about 1.2 kilograms, totaling 240 kilograms.

Officials estimate the market value of the seized drugs and vehicle at Rs. 63 million. The narcotics were taken into custody under legal procedures, and an FIR has been registered to pursue further investigation.

Earlier on March 3, ASO officers received a tip-off about a Toyota Fortuner (registration number BG-4558) transporting smuggled mobile phones near Gulbai Flyover. The vehicle was stopped, and inspectors discovered specially engineered hidden compartments in the bumpers, headlights, trunk, flooring, and door panels.

From these secret cavities, customs staff recovered 800 mobile phones wrapped in bubble sheets. The haul included devices from major brands such as iPhone, Motorola, OnePlus, Vivo, and Huawei. All were unregistered, confirming their smuggled origin. The seized phones and vehicle are valued at Rs. 74.64 million. Authorities have lodged an FIR and confiscated the goods for further legal action.

These back-to-back operations underscore the vigilance of Karachi’s Customs Enforcement in combating smuggling networks. Officials say the seizures not only prevent illicit goods from flooding the market but also protect legitimate trade and revenue streams.
