KARACHI: The Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) is gearing up for its annual elections this Saturday, with 1,850 registered members expected to cast their votes. The Customs Agents Alliance, a dominant force in the association since 2009, is once again fielding candidates across all key positions. Remarkably, the Alliance has secured unopposed victories for the past six years, underscoring its entrenched influence within the customs community.

Haji Asif, Patron of the Customs Agents Alliance, emphasized the group’s commitment to inclusivity and renewal. “Whenever we propose that new individuals should be given a chance to lead the KCAA, our nine-member core committee evaluates nominations from nine affiliated groups,” he explained. “This ensures that fresh ideas and leadership continue to emerge.”

According to one agent, the elections primarily serve to formalize office-bearer roles, as the Alliance’s internal consensus often determines the outcome well before ballots are cast.

The Alliance has announced a full roster of candidates for the upcoming election:

With the Customs Agents Alliance’s longstanding dominance and internal consensus mechanisms, Saturday’s election is expected to reaffirm their leadership. However, the inclusion of new faces and the Businessmen Panel’s active participation signal a continued evolution in the association’s governance.

Several members of the Customs Agents Alliance Panel have actively participated in past KCAA elections across various tenures and roles. Mr. Yahya Muhammad from M/s. Ocean Packers & Movers contested multiple times, serving as Assistant Vice President in 2009 (a four-month tenure), Senior Vice President in both 2012–2013 and 2014–2015, and later as President in 2019–2020. Mr. Zahid Bashir Choudhry of M/s. Zed Bee Enterprises was nominated as Joint Secretary in 2009 (four-month tenure), and served consecutively as a Member of the Managing Committee from 2010 to 2013.
