KARACHI: The Special Judge for Customs, Taxation & Anti-Smuggling-I has ordered the immediate release of Muhammad Faraz, son of Muhammad Ashraf, following his successful bail application in a case involving alleged violations of the Customs Act, 1969, and the Sales Tax Act, 1990.

Faraz, who was remanded to jail custody on July 25, 2025, in connection with FIR No. 03/2025, was represented by Franklin Law Associates. He was granted bail on August 5, subject to furnishing a surety bond of Rs.300,000 and a personal recognizance (P.R) bond of equal value. The surety was submitted by Muhammad Ibrahim in the form of a Digital Security Certificate (DSC), which the court accepted on August 6.

The case, titled The State vs. Multi Interiors and Others, involves multiple accused and centers on alleged infractions under Sections 32(1)(2), 79(1), and 80 of the Customs Act, punishable under clauses 14, 43, 44, 45, and 46 of Section 156(1), as well as Sections 33 and 34 of the Sales Tax Act.

In a formal directive issued to the Superintendent of Central Prison, Karachi, Special Judge Jahangir Ahmed Dayo instructed that Faraz be released “forthwith” upon submission of the P.R bond, provided he is not required in any other custody case. The bail bond is to be returned to the court for record-keeping.

Faraz has been ordered to appear before the court again on August 30, 2025, as proceedings continue in what authorities describe as a “multi-layered investigation into commercial tax evasion and customs fraud.”
