Islamabad/Karachi: Asif Ali Abro, a prominent civil servant and Deputy Commissioner of the Inland Revenue Service, has resigned from his government position to pursue a career in law. In his resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Secretary of the Revenue Division, Abro cited personal reasons for his decision, emphasizing his desire to contribute to upholding the rule of law as a member of Pakistan’s legal fraternity.
Abro, a 2009 Central Superior Services (CSS) qualified officer (38th Common), joined the government as an Assistant Commissioner-IR and rose through the ranks to become Deputy Commissioner. He also served as Additional Commissioner (OPS) after completing mandatory training with the 36th Mid-Career Management Course (MCMC). Notably, he holds a law degree from a UK legal institution.
In his resignation, Abro expressed gratitude to the Government of Pakistan for the opportunities afforded to him during his tenure. He mentioned receiving a special monetary reward under the A+ category for officers, a recognition of his exemplary service.
Abro’s decision to transition from civil service to the legal field has sparked discussions in bureaucratic circles, with many praising his commitment to the rule of law. His resignation is effective immediately, and he is expected to formally join the legal profession in the coming weeks.
