KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has unanimously approved a resolution to extend the tenure of its current office bearers by one year. The decision was reached during Executive and General Body meetings chaired by FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh.
The resolution, presented by FPCCI Vice President Qurat-ul-Ain, highlighted the necessity of synchronizing election cycles across the country’s chambers and the federation itself. According to the resolution, failure to extend FPCCI’s elections would create inconsistencies, leading to procedural challenges in future election cycles.
Concerns over legislative discrepancies were also raised. It was noted that while trade organizations and chambers are allocated two-year terms, the National Assembly has not yet clarified the federation’s electoral structure. Advocates for the extension argued that if the National Assembly and Cabinet approve the measure, FPCCI’s election process will achieve long-term consistency.
The meeting saw representation from all four provinces, with prominent figures including Vice President FPCCI Asif Sakhi and UBGS Chief Patron SM Tanveer in attendance. Alongside discussions on governance matters, participants commended the recent achievements of Pakistan’s armed forces against India and expressed appreciation for the country’s political leadership.
Business community concerns were also addressed, with FPCCI members briefed on initiatives undertaken by the federation. In a show of unity, the resolution to extend the tenure of FPCCI’s office bearers was passed with unanimous approval. Members of both the Executive and General Bodies reaffirmed their trust in the leadership of FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh.
