LOS ANGELES: Airbnb unveiled a major update to its app Tuesday, expanding beyond property rentals to offer services like private chefs, personal trainers and curated experiences.

The redesigned app will let users book stays, services and activities—such as spa treatments, cooking classes and guided tours—in one place. Airbnb said the new features will launch in 260 cities for services and over 650 cities for experiences, with more locations to come.

Chief Business Officer Dave Stephenson compared the shift to Amazon’s evolution from an online bookstore. “We’re expanding beyond the core,” he said. The update also includes tools for hosts and enhanced traveler communication.

CEO Brian Chesky said the changes eliminate the need to choose between hotels and Airbnb. “Now you can Airbnb more than an Airbnb,” he said.
