HYDERABAD: In a significant crackdown on smuggled fuel, Customs Hyderabad has successfully recovered a massive quantity of illicit diesel and petrol in a targeted raid. The operation, which was carried out in the rural area of Dindo, Taluka Tando Ghulam Hyder, District Tando Muhammad Khan, led to the seizure of approximately 35,000 liters of smuggled diesel and petrol, along with a mini oil tanker capable of carrying 5,000 liters.
The intelligence leading to this operation was communicated by Chief Collector Basit Abbasi to Collector Moona Mehfooz and Muhammad Adnan Khan, ADC (OPS), Customs Enforcement, Hyderabad, alerting them to the presence of smuggled fuel products in the area. Acting swiftly, Amjad Lal Junejo, Deputy Collector, ASU assembled a specialized team, spearheaded by Haresh Kumar, Inspector Customs, Incharge ASU Hyderabad-III, to execute the raid.
The operation was meticulously planned and successfully executed, uncovering the fuel hidden in a designated dumping area. However, the challenge did not end there. The process of loading, unloading, and transferring the recovered petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL) into the state warehouse proved to be a complex and time-consuming task, spanning nearly 36 hours. Authorities faced multiple hurdles in completing the required legal formalities, but diligent coordination among officers ensured the process was carried out efficiently.
Throughout the operation, officers remained in constant communication with the Deputy Collector and Anti-Smuggling Unit (ASU), providing real-time reports on the raid and the subsequent disposal of the seized goods. The success of this operation marks yet another step in the relentless efforts of customs authorities to curb smuggling activities in the region and uphold the rule of law.
Officials have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illicit trade and smuggling networks, ensuring that illegal fuel operations are dismantled. This latest operation is expected to serve as a strong deterrent to smuggling activities in the region.
