QUETTA: In a significant crackdown on smuggling activities, Customs Baluchistan intercepted a passenger coach traveling between Quetta and Karachi at Khurkhera. The operation, which took place in the presence of a large number of locals, turned into a challenging situation as residents gathered, creating a law and order issue.

Despite the difficult circumstances, Customs officials successfully recovered a substantial quantity of betel nut, foreign-origin cigarettes, and other miscellaneous goods, with an estimated worth of Rs100 million. This seizure marks a major victory in the ongoing efforts to curb smuggling activities in the region.

Under the directives of Collector Azhar Merchant and Additional Collector Najeeb Arjumand, Customs Baluchistan has intensified its control on the movement of smuggled goods. The staff has been directed to maintain strict vigilance to prevent such activities. The Khurkhera operation was conducted by Inspector Shahzad and Inspector Tauseef, who played a crucial role in this successful interception.

The significance of this seizure lies in the fact that these coaches, often posing as passenger coaches, move in convoys and do not typically stop at Khurkhera for checks. The successful operation highlights the effectiveness of the tightened security measures implemented by Customs Baluchistan.

This incident underscores the ongoing battle against smuggling in the region and the dedication of Customs officials to uphold the law and protect the country’s economy from the detrimental effects of smuggled goods.
