KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) in Karachi made a significant seizure of 3.4 kilograms of marijuana (cannabis) at the International Mail Office (IMO). The operation was initiated under the special instructions of Collector Adeem Khan, who directed Additional Collector Faisal Khan to enhance surveillance at the airport. Acting on credible information, the Customs officials increased monitoring of EMS post parcels originating from Bangkok, Thailand, as they were suspected to contain contraband or controlled substances.
During an intelligence-based operation, a suspicious parcel containing used clothing and shoes was intercepted. The parcel, booked from Bangkok and addressed to Mr. Haider, was examined in the presence of Customs and IMO staff. This led to the discovery of 3.4 kilograms of raw marijuana, valued at approximately Rs. 17 million. An FIR is being lodged to trace the real culprits behind this crime.
The successful seizure is a result of the increased monitoring of EMS post parcels from Bangkok at IMO. The seized item is now under forensic analysis, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest both the sender and recipient, as well as to determine the extent of the narcotics network. This operation highlights Pakistan Customs’ ongoing efforts to combat international narcotics trafficking at JIAP.
