KARACHI: Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized smuggled goods worth Rs140 million. Information was passed through DG I&I Faiz Ahmed to Director Karachi Engineer Habib about presence of huge quantity of smuggled goods in a residential building in a thickly populated area of Karachi.
In pursuance of this information team comprising of Additional Director Afzaal Watto, Deputy Director Wasif Malik, and Assistant Director Saud Hasan, Superintendent Irshad Ali Shah was constituted.
The team raided the target premises in the late hours of 7th September, 2023. Smuggled goods including Cigarettes, Cigars, Ladies Bags, Gents Belts, Wallets, Flavoured Pan Masala, Creams, Shampoo, Hajmola, Tootha Pastes, Vicks, Key Chains & multiple items of Indian Origin goods etc were recovered which were brought to the Directorate of Customs Intelligence in seven Mazda Trucks.
The cumulative value of these goods was ascertained as Rs.140 million. FIR has been lodged against the smugglers and their accomplices and further investigations are on.
The Chairman FBR Mr. Tawana and the Director General Customs Intelligence Mr. Faiz Chadhar appreciated the effort and urged the officers and staff of Customs Intelligence, Karachi to make more efforts to curb the menace of smuggling in the region.
