KARACHI: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi has recovered large quantity of smuggled contraband items worth Rs64.9 million, which was dumped at a building near Bolton market Karachi. I&I Karachi has shown some performance after a long time.

Brief facts of the case are that a credible information was received through Director General I&I Faiz Ahmed to Director I&I Karachi Engineer Habib that some unscrupulous persons are engaged in the storage / dumping of various smuggled / non-duty paid / injurious to health, foreign origin goods at the premises near Boltan Market, Karachi and further disposal and illegal sale in the local market.

In pursuance of aforesaid information, Additional Director Nosheen Faisal formed a team under the supervision of Deputy Director Inam Ullah Wazir.  The ASO team of I&I Karachi approached the aforesaid place.

The search of premises was carried out in presence of witnesses, to which, huge quantity of smuggled / non-duty paid / injurious to health, foreign origin misc. goods including Cigarettes, Shisha Flavour, & Indian Origin Gutka were recovered from warehouse located at different floors of the Azeem building.

Keeping in view the huge quantity of recovered foreign origin misc. goods and possibility of any untoward law and order situation, detailed inventory of the recovered goods could not be carried out at the spot. However, the summarize inventory of boras were made on the spot and brought the same through hired trucks to the office of the Directorate situated at PECHS, Karachi, for completion of further legal formalities.

Nobody came forward to claim the ownership of above mentioned recovered goods, nor anyone approached the office of the Directorate in connection with the aforesaid recovered foreign origin misc. goods. Therefore, being smuggled one and non-duty paid, all the aforesaid recovered foreign origin goods have been seized.

An FIR is lodged and investigation is under way.
