KARACHI: The anti-smuggling team of Customs Intelligence, Karachi has seized smuggled goods worth more than Rs 110 million in the last 5 days with arrests of 4 persons.

On the directives of Director Saquif Saeed, Additional Director Nausheed Faisal, the anti smuggling team of Customs Intelligence Karachi led by Deputy Director Inamullah Wazir has stepped up its counter smuggling operations and has affected bug seizures in the last five days.

On a specific information that a group involved in organized smuggling of betel nuts would attempt to smuggle a dumper load to Karachi and then onward distribute it in suburbs, surveillance was mounted on Sohrab goth which led to the interception of the dumper. A huge quantity of smuggled betelnuts were recovered. Value of the seized goods and vehicle is estimated to be Rs 22 million.

wo persons have also been arrested in the case who are remanded to Customs Intelligence for 3 days by the Customs Judge.

The second seizure made is of high value smuggled furnishing, suiting and curtain fabric loaded in a container under the cover of fake documents. Value of the seized fabric and vehicle is estimated to be Rs 37 million. Two persons have been arrested and FIR has been lodged.

Various other seizures made in the last 5 days are of Iranian diesel, fabric, plastic bags and food items.

Director General I&I Faiz Ahmed appreciated the work of I&I Karachi team and advised that joint operations could be carried on with other formations of Pakistan Customs across the country.
