KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) disposed of a petition filed by a number of companies who importer filament yarn.

The petitioners include S.M Traders,  Vohra Traders, Jannat Textile, Aryaan Textile, S.K Collection and others.

Rana Shahawat Advocate appearing for the petitioner argued that application/ representation against Valuation Ruling is pending before the Directorate of Valuation, Karachi while consignments are incurring heavy port and other charges on daily basis.

He submitted that petitioner companies are ready to secure disputed amount of duty and taxes with the Nazir of SHC. He sought a direction to the custom authorities for provisional release of consignments.

The bench after hearing the sides disposed of the petition with the direction to the custom authorities to release comnsignments after satisfying that petitioners have secured the amount disputed with Nazir of SHC who shall issue the certificates confirming that disputed amounts have been duly secured under Pay Orders or Bank Guarantees.

The bench also ordered that outcome of the secured amount will be linked to the decision in applications challenging the Valuation Ruling concerned.
