KARACHI: Member Customs-FBR Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda is appointed Chairman Karachi Port Trust (KPT).

Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Karachi is managed in accordance with the provisions of KPT Act, 1886. As per Section 6 (1) read with section 11 of the Act ibid, the Federal Government shall appoint a person to be Chairman of KPT Board who shall hold office for such period as the Federal Government may from time to time decides.

Federal Cabinet approved repatriation the erstwhile Chairman, KPT, Mr. Nadir Mumtaz Warraich and granted additional charge to Syed Sayadian Raza Zaidi, IRS (BPS-21) presently posted as DG (Ports & Shipping), Ministry of Maritime Affairs for an initial period of three months or till the posting of regular incumbent.

The Supreme Court in its decision in Al Mustafa Impex case has defined the Federal Government as the Federal Cabinet, therefore, approval of the Federal Cabinet is required. As per the instructions issued by the Cabinet Division no Trustee / Director of Board of Directors / Trustees can be appointed except with the approval of the Prime Minister.

It is, therefore, proposed that Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda, Member Customs (Operations) (BS-21), Federal Board of Revenue, may be appointed as Chairman, Karachi Port Trust (KPT) on deputation on standard terms & condition till further orders.

Approval of the Prime Minister is solicited, to the proposal before placement of the Summary before to the Federal Cabinet for its consideration / approval.

Moreover, Director General Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Abdul Rasheed Shaikh (BS-22) is posted as Member FBR (HQ). He was earlier in the day posted as DG–IPR, but hours later, a corrigendum was issued notifying that Shaikh is actually appointed as Member FBR.

Faiz Ahmad (Pakistan Customs Service/BS-21) is transferred from Chief Collector Appraisement Central, Lahore to Director General Intelligence and Investigation-FBR, Islamabad.

Ms. Rabab Sikandar (Pakistan Customs Service/BS-21) is transferred from Director General, Directorate General of IPR (Enforcement), stationed at Lahore to Chief Collector Appraisement Central, Lahore.

Ch. Muhammad Javed (BS-20) is moved from Collector JIAP Karachi to Collector Appeals in Karachi. Dr. Muhammad Nadeem (BS-20) is moved from Collector Appeals in Karachi to Collector JIAP, Karachi.

Sources said there would be large scale reshuffling of Pakistan Customs Service (PCS) officers ranging from BS-17 to BS-21 after Eid holidays, in a phased manner.
