KARACHI: Hearing a constitutional petition filed by Mian Saeed & Sons, importers of Iron and Steel goods, the custom appellate bench of High Court of Sindh ordered authorities of Pakistan Customs to form Steel Committee.

The dispute pertained to the factual controversy that whether the goods imported are new or old. Ghulam Nabi Shar Advocate represented the petitioner. The Federation was represented by Deputy Attorney General Kafeel Ahmed Abbasi while Khalid Rajper Advocate represenred Pakistan Customs.

At the start of hearing , the counsel for petitioner submitted that in past such issues were referred to Steel Committee for ascertainment of the factual aspects. The counsel for Pakistan Customs opposed the proposition vehemently but the bench deciding the petition said it deem it proper that a Steel Committee be formed by the Custom Authorities which should decide the factual issues within 15 days. The Steel Committee was also asked to examine the goods in detail and make a report.
