KARACHI: Customs Appraisment West Karachi has lodged FIR against M/s Metallurgy International and M/s Trishmir Imports for fiscal fraud through submission of tampered, fabricated and fake import documents and gross mis-declaration of the imported goods causing loss to national exchequer.
Information was passed through Collector Appraisement West Tahir Qureshi to Additional Collector Yasir Wahab Kalwer, that M/s Metallurgy International with the collusion of M/s Trishmir Imports have committed fiscal fraud and evaded significant amount of government revenue against Customs clearance of Iron & Steel sheets through tampering import documents and mis-declaration. Moreover, M/s Metallurgy International with the collusion of M/s Trishmir involved in manipulating samples and their reports in order to clear goods under HS Code 7225.1900 attracting zero percent custom duty and additional custom duty, while goods are actually classifiable under HS Code 7209.1610 attracting 20% duty with anti-dumping duty.
Deputy Collector Raza Naqvi formed a team comprising Principal Appraiser Ghulam Yasin, Appraising officers Mohammad Riaz, Khizar Khursheed and Hafiz Asad to scrutinize the data.
In pursuance of the information, Director procured relevant documents/data of the consignments in the WeBOC system as well as copies of the relevant bank certified actual import documents.
It is clearly evident that Nasir Hussain of M/s Metallurgy International in active connivance of customs Muhammad Anwar s/o Haji Usman proprietor of M/s Trishmir Imports and Shabbir Ahmed, Manager of M/s Trishmir Imports along with their accomplices, abettors and facilitators attempted to clandestinely hoodwink the customs authorities and provided allegedly manipulated/forged import documents/test reports to the customs authorities and deprived the government exchequer of legitimate duties and taxes to the tune of Rs 5.15 million.
The role of laboratory, courier company and other accomplices shall be ascertained during the course of the investigation. Consequent upon approval of the competent authority this FIR is lodged accordingly for in-depth investigation into the matter.
