KARACHI: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi has seized a large quantity of smuggled goods worth Rs71.38 million as the authorities push the anti-smuggling drive ahead.
On the directives of Director Saqif Saeed, Additional Director Umer Shafiq and Deputy Director Amjad Rajpar, the staff of Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-Customs Karachi operated at four different places during last 24 hours and seized huge quantity of smuggled foreign origin fabrics, betel nuts, Iranian origin food products, non-duty-paid (NDP) vehicles including Toyota Land cruiser.
The aggregate value of goods comes to Rs71.38 million. The recovered goods have been detained for further investigation.
It may be mentioned here that I&I Karachi has expedited the efforts against smuggling and has made many cases. However, the ASO team is still not sufficient, particularly after transfer of Iftikhar Hasan to Hyderabad. Iftikhar Hasan is a very competent and reputed official and had been instrumental in the anti-smuggling campaign in Karachi.
