KARACHI: A recovery of Rupees 977355 from Messer’s Shan Foods (Uni ok ever) was confirmed in an Order in Original (ONO) passed by Ch. Imran Afzal Lilla, Deputy Collector of Pakistan Customs, Adjudication II, Karachi.
Shan Foods was accused of evading duty and taxes in the import of Chicken Flavor Powder by misdeclaring the commodity under PCT 3302.1090 while correct PCT was 2106.9030, involving a difference of 9 per cent.
The case was detected by the Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) on an information that importers are evading huge amount of duty and taxes in import of Chicken Flavor Powder causing huge loss to national exchequer.
The DIT blocked an consignment of Unilever Pak Foods on 30_6_ 2021. The information was found correct and an evasion of Rupees 545,997 was found which was paid by the importer.
This lead to the scrutiny of WeBOC data of same item during Dec 2019_ April 2021.
Upon scrutiny it was found that Messer’s Shan Foods Karachi has also misdeclared the same item and evaded duty and taxes in connivance with Clearing Agent Ryan Agencies. The evaded amount was found to be Rupees 977355.
A show cause notice was issued and after Adjudication proceedings, the charge was proved. The adjudicating authority also imposed a penalty of Rupees 200000 upon importer Shan Foods while clearing agent was ordered to pay a penalty of Rupees 40000.
