QUETTA: Customs Intelligence and Investigation – Quetta has arrested four persons (Drivers) and lodged FIRs after seizing two trucks loaded with smuggled goods in the garb of fresh onions.

An official said initial investigations have found the identities of the owners of these smuggled goods.

Information was received through Director Intelligence & Investigation Quetta Muhammad Ismail that smuggled goods would be transported from Quetta to Punjab in trucks under the garb of onions (low quality).

Accordingly, Deputy Director Raza Naqvi formed a team led by Intelligence Officer Hamid Habib and others, for the task.

Subsequently, the suspected vehicles were intercepted on Quetta-Zhob road. Cursory checking of the vehicles found loaded with parcels of fresh onion. Thorough search of the intercepted trucks were conducted, which led to recovery of the contraband / smuggled goods including foreign origin cigarettes, Sheesha flavor, tobacco, betel nut and cloth. The value of the seized goods along with vehicles comes to Rs80 million.

An official said the recovered foreign origin smuggled goods were being transported for further distribution inside the country.

It may be mentioned here that KPK border was completely closed and there was no inflow of smuggled goods, as the fences have been installed. However, flow of smuggled goods is still on in Baluchistan, therefore customs is focused on Quetta-Chaman border and further transportation of such goods.
