GWADAR: Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Agha Saeed held a meeting with the field formation, which was also attended by Assistant Director Ali Raza Bhatti and Intelligence Officer Shujaat Hussain.
The meeting discussed the anti-smuggling measures as the flow of smuggled goods via Gwadar has increased.
Director Agha Saeed advised the staff to further strengthen the intelligence network and increase vigilance to stop landing and further transportation of smuggled goods.
Agha Saeed advised to keep strict eye on the movement of smuggled goods to up country and in-country via various routes including Jacobabad.
The smuggling of fuel, narcotics and other goods including betel nut, auto parts, cloth, tyres, tiles, Chijnese salt (ajino moto) etc. has been going for decades through the border.
But putting an end to such a giant racket that has developed over such a long period of time will not be as easy. However, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on the directives of federal government have launched a crackdown that has delivered positive results.
Recently, on the basis of a credible information shared by the Director, Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation- Customs, Gwadar with Pakistan Navy, a successful joint operation was conducted inside the sea off Kund Malir near Ormara apprehending the fine quality liquor in the form of 5400 bottles with an approximate value of over Rs.70 million.
Similarly, many other attempts of moving smuggled goods were stopped and goods were seized.
