LAHORE: Customs Lahore has expedited the efforts against smuggling and seized large quantity of smuggled goods worth Rs400 million.
Acting on a certain information a joint team of the Directorate of I&I and Collectorate of Enforcement Lahore, led by Additional Director Hassan Farid and Assistant Collector Sidra Naz carried out an 18-hour long operation in four districts Pakpattan, Okara , Kasur and Lahore simultaneously and apprehended 08 containers fully loaded with smuggled fabric, tyres, juices, welding electrodes etc.
These smuggled goods were on their way to Lahore from Quetta on G T Road. The operation was directly supervised by Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi.
The bunch of containers belonged to Nabi Bakhsh Group and approximate value of the goods is Rs400 million.
Ten persons have been arrested. Since the total number of containers in the bunch was more, after the detention of 8 containers the smugglers started travelling back towards south upon which Enforcement Collectorate Multan was alerted by the team and resultantly two such containers were apprehended by Multan Collectorate making the total tally to 10 and value to Rs 500 million by three formations of Customs.
Usually, Intelligence and Investigaton (I&I) and Customs Appraisement/Enforcement are bitter rivals, but this is for the first time that both I&I Lahore and Customs Lahore are working in complete coordination, which has yielded very positive results.
