HYDERABAD: Customs Intelligence & Investigation Sukkur (I&I Sukkur) has expedited anti-smuggling efforts. On the directives of Director General Abdul Rasheed Shaikh, Customs Intelligence and Investigation across the country is pursuing a rigorous anti-smuggling campaign. Sukkur region is a highly sensitive areas being the main route used for transportation of smuggled goods from Karachi and Quetta to upcountry. Similarly all inflow of goods from up country to south passes through Sukkur region.
A credible information was received through the Director Intelligence & Investigation Hyderabad Saleem Memon that attempts would be made to smuggle huge quantity of betel nuts from Punjab towards Karachi.
Accordingly, the information was passed on to the team of ASO Wing I&I Sukkur and the team took active surveillance on day and night basis eventually, the suspected vehicle was intercepted near Khairpur.
On cursory checking found loaded with Non duty paid/Smuggled Betel Nuts. On query driver of the said vehicle did not produce legal import/possession documents.
The value of 09 tons of betel nut is Rs11.7 million and value of vehicle is Rs6.0 million.
