Police arrests former SHO for killing Customs informant on behest of smugglers

KARACHI: Police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) said that former SHO Haroon Korai was arrested for his alleged involvement in the ‘contract killing’ of an informer of the Pakistan Customs Intelligence and Investigation.

CTD DIG Omar Shahid Hamid said that Korai, a former SHO of the Sachal police station, was involved in the killing of the Custom’s informer who helped to recover chhalia (betal nut) worth over Rs70 million.

Narrating the incident, he recalled that on July 17, 2021, a man, identified as Fazal, was abducted from Surjani Town and the same night his body was recovered in the Steel Town area.

“CCTV footage indicated that it had been a raid carried out by people in one black Vigo and a police mobile,” he said.

Sources said officers of Customs Intelligence and Investigation including Deputy Directors Amjad Rajper, Rana Tasleem and Tauseeef Grochani, Intelligence Officer Muhammad Sadiq and others are also at risk.
Sources said these officers and officials are being chased in tinted vehicles and are being harassed.
Member Customs Tariq Huda is personally monitoring this entire anti0smuggling operation. All field formations are super active and efficiently countering the smuggling.
