QUETTA: Customs Gwadar has foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics into the country and seized 820Kg of high quality Charas worth Rs180 million.

Information was passed through Chief Collector Gul Rahman to Collector Gwadar Javed Chaudry regarding movement of contraband goods. A team was formed to thwart the attempt.

Accordingly, Customs staff at Khurkhera check post on Gwadar-Karachi RCD highway signaled an oil tanker to stop, but it sped away. Customs staff followed the vehicle and found it at a short distance abandoned by the driver.

The checking of the vehicle resulted in recovery of Charas concealed in the secret cavities. The narcotics were to be smuggled to Europe.

It may be mentioned here that on the directives of Member Customs Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Tariq huda, a rigorous crackdown on smuggled goods including narcotics is underway.
