KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi has seized 5,982 liters of beer, 1,502 liters of assorted wine/whiskey from two containers lying at Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT).
Information was received from Director General Intelligence and Investigation Abdul Rsheed Shaikh to Director Khalil Yousafani regarding presence of liquor in these containers.
Subsequently, Additional Director Rana Tasleem and Assistant Collector Majid Gaad arranged joint examination of the containers. Appraising Officers Rasheed Burni and Umair Soomro conducted the examination along with the staff of Appraisement West.
An official said this information was with the Director General for about a month, but no action could be taken as the former Collector Appraisement West kept delaying the joint examination of the consignment.
However, last week Abdul Rasheed Shaikh coordinated with the Chief Collector Appraisement South Surayya Butt, and examination was conducted, which led to recovery of liquor.
The containers were imported by M/s En Rui Development (Pvt) Ltd. The liquor along with other miscellaneous goods have been seized and criminal proceedings in the case are underway.
The newly posted Collector MCC Appraisement West Tahir Qureshi facilitated the joint examination of these containers and he is also activating the R&D of MCC Appraisement West, which was idle lately.
Moreover, R&D will also compile details of all the containers lying at KICT for long and the GDs have not been filed.
