KARACHI: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Gujranwala has seized large quantity of smuggled goods including betel nut. The value of the seized goods is Rs40 million.

Information was passed through Collector Preventive Lahore Basit Maqsood Abbasi to Additional Collector I&I Hasan Farid regarding movement of smuggled goods, which were owned by notorious smuggler Haji Sadiq.

According to details, I&I Gujranwala along with the assistance of ASO of Customs Lahore setup a picket at Motorway M2 and signaled a Hino truck to stop. On seeing the Customs staff, the driver of the vehicle parked the vehicle on the roadside and slipped away.

The checking of the vehicle led to recovery of large quantity of foreign origin goods including tyres, cloth and welding rods etc.

Meanwhile two persons namely Masood Khan and Muhammad Rafiq appeared in a private car and claimed the ownership of the goods. However, they failed to substantiate their claims by producing any documentary evidence.

Since the claimants failed to produce any documentary evidence of legal import and possession of the goods, the same have been seized. Further investigation is underway.

The operation was supervised by Additional Collectors Muteen Alam and Muhammad Hassan Farid

Deputy Directors Shehzad Liaqat Ranjha and Muhammad Hamza Lak, Deputy Collector Adil Karim led the teams that seized the smuggled goods.
The team included Zulfiqar Ali Doogar Superintendent, Intelligence Officers Muhammad Arif, Muhammad Zaman, Muhammad Akmal Shahzad, Gulzar Bhatti, Nauman Ashraf, Allah Ditta, Muhammad Aslam Ch., Majid Raza, Tipu Sultan, Inspectors Shahid Bhatti, Rana Babar and sepoys.
