I&I Lahore recovers smuggled goods worth Rs75 million

LAHORE: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Lahore has seized three trailers of smuggled iron pipes, which were coming from Quetta.

The seized goods belong to notorious smuggler Haji Nabi Bakhash. Haji Nabi Bakhash is a big smuggler and has connections in the law enforcement agencies, security agencies, Customs and politicians. He freely moves smuggled goods across the country,

However, Director I&I Lahore Asad Raza Rizvi and Collector Preventive Lahore Basit Abbasi did not succumb to pressure and are continuously cracking down on the operations of Haji Nabi Bakhash.

Information was passed through Director Asad Raza Rizvi to Additional Director Hasan Farid regarding movement of smuggled goods.

Hassan Farid supervised the operation along with Deputy Director Tayyeba Bokhari. Other staff members Superintendent Agha Qadeer, Inspector Gulzar Bhatti ,Aslam Chaudhry, Inspector Tipu, AD and sepoy Rashid zaidi and umer Javed.

Examination of the goods found that the goods (iron pipes) had been mis-declared  and the traders also had misused the facility of industrial exemption. The value of goods is Rs75 million.

It may be mentioned here that the FBR’s anti-smuggling campaign suffered a setback after the anti-smuggling team in Karachi was broken by a senior officer. Moreover, an inefficient team was deployed in Hyderabad.

Collector Hyderabad Abdul Qadir Memon is a well reputed officer and is trying to control the smuggling, but his team is not efficient enough. Hyderabad is a main collectorate and has large jurisdiction and all movement of smuggled goods from Baluchistan to Sindh and Punjab goes through Hyderabad.
