HYDERABAD: Customs Hyderabad has seized large quantity of betel nut. The current market value of the recovered betel nuts is Rs.13.5 Million and that of vehicle is Rs.3 Million.
Total value of the case is Rs.16.5 Million. One persons has been arrested and FIR is being lodged. Further progress will be intimated in due course of time.
Keeping in line with the directions of Mr. Abdul Rasheed Shaikh, Director General, Intelligence & Investigation (Customs), Islamabad to keep strict vigilance on dumping sites in the jurisdiction of Regional Directorate, Hyderabad, Director, Dr. Sadiqullah Khan, Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation (Customs), Hyderabad instructed the head of ASO Wing Mr. Jamshed Ali Talpur, Additional Director and Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi Deputy Director and the team of ASO Hyderabad to locate/identify possible dumping grounds in the district of Tando Allahyar and Mirpurkhas.
Consequently, pursuing a reliable source that huge quantity of contraband goods were dumped in a godown situated at Pathan Goth, Meghwar Para, District Tando Allahyar, the team of ASO Wing, Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation (Customs), Regional Office, Hyderabad under the supervision of Deputy Director (ASO) Hyderabad in coordination with 73-Wing of Qasim Rangers, Sindh at Hyderabad entered the premises and found a poultry (chicken) truck having specially designed cavities and recovered 200 bags of smuggled betel nuts from those cavities, whereas, 160 bags were also recovered which were also stored/dumped in the premises.
Thorough examination of the goods was carried out which resulted into recovery of 360-Bags of betel nuts containing approx. 9,000-kgs.
The Director appreciated the efforts of ASO Wing, Hyderabad who is working tirelessly day and night.
