QUETTA: Pakistan Customs officials destroyed smuggled and contraband goods worth around Rs4 billion in a ceremony in the presence of officials of various agencies working against the drug menace.

The smuggled and contrabands goods included narcotics, charts, liquor, gutka, medicines, Chinese salt and betel nuts. An event for the destruction of the goods was held by at the kachmor drug destruction point in the suburb of Quetta City.

Gul Rehman. Chief Collector of Customs Balochistan attended the ceremony as chief guest.

Heads of law enforcement agencies such as the FC, the Anti-Narcotics Force and the Balochistan Police, senior government servants, citizens, representatives of the business community were also present at the event.

According to a Pakistan Customs spokesperson, the proceedings started with the national anthem. Irfan Javed collector (enforcement), welcomed the guests and gave a brief overview of the event.

This was followed by remarks of the Gul Rehman chief collector who extolled the effort of the department to ensure seizures of smuggled and contraband goods, and called upon the officers and staff of the MCC (Preventive) to rid society of the narcotics’ menace and remain vigilant to the ever-changing trends of smuggling.

He also appreciated the role of other law and order agencies assisting customs department in the field of anti smuggling activities.

Later on, Mr.Irfan Javed collector Preventive faced the media and briefly explained Customs Quetta efforts regarding anti smuggling activities and appreciated the role of the staff.

The items destroyed were. 3542 kilograms of narcotic ( charas ) 554 bottles of liquors , 1350 M.Ton of gutka and 1943 M.Ton tons of betel nuts Chinese salts and goods such as expired cosmetics and foodstuffs and medicines medicines.
