KARACHI: Despite armed resistance, ASO of MCC Preventive Karachi managed to seize large quantity of smuggled tyres stashed at warehouses in old Sabzi Mandi.
Information was passed through Collector Saquif Saeed to Additional Collector Haroon Malik regarding presence of smuggled tyres in old Sabzi Mandi.
Assistant Collector Shafiullah coordinated with the Police and secured permission from a majistrate regarding the raid.
Late in the night, ASO team led by Superintendent Iftikhar Hasan along with large contingent of Police raided the warehouses and recovered around 5 container load of smuggled tyres.
While the goods were being loaded for removal to Customs House, the smugglers/owners of the goods created a law and order situation and fired shots.
Superintendent Iftikhar Hasan and two other Customs officials sustained minor injuries.
This is the second time, ASO Preventive raided these warehouses and dumping ground of smuggled tyres, which are considered no go areas for Customs.
