QUETTA: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta has seized miscellaneous foreign origin goods worth approximately Rs82 million and lodged two separate FIRs against several accused.

Information was received through Director Sami-ul-Haq to Deputy Director Dr. Zohaib regarding movement of smuggled goods from Chaman to Quetta through trucks under the garb of apples and onions.

Accordingly, a team led by Intelligence Officer Hamid Habib was constituted to intercept the trucks. The suspected trucks were spotted and stopped at FC Check Post, Baleli, right after the Baleli Check post of Customs Preventive.

Thorough checking of the trucks led to recovery of foreign origin smuggled goods including Samsung UHD TVs, large quantity of mobile phones, cosmetics, gutka, betel nut and cigarettes.

Preliminary investigations found that staff of Customs Check post Baleli and officials at check posts en-route to Quetta facilitated smuggling of the goods and allowed the vehicles to cross Customs Check post without any checking or hindrance for forward transportation of smuggled goods.

One FIR is lodged against Ahmedullah, Jamaluddin, Muhammad Rasool and officials of Customs Preventive. Another FIR is lodged against Lajber Mulezai, Jalil Achakzai, Siraj Agha, Kaleem Agha and Customs Preventive officials. Investigations are underway.
