HYDERABAD: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Hyderabad has lodged an FIR against persons yet to be asertained in relation to the large quantity of smuggled goods recovered from warehouses in District Umerkot.
initial investigations found that one person named Lali is running the entire smuggling ring, and all the smuggled contraband were owned by Lali.
An official said Lali was a very influential smuggler and had connections with a Senator. Lali is a partner of Jaysa Ram.
It was also known that few years ago then Additional Collector Umer Shafiq ordered a raid on the warehouses of Lali, during which an official Abdul Ghaffar Shaikh was martyred in the cross firing.
Information was received through the Director, Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation (Customs), Hyderabad Sadiqullah to Additional Director Jamshed Talpur that huge quantity of Indian origin Gutkha and foreign origin smuggled Betel Nuts were clumped in two different places/godowns namely Goth Kando Khan Mahar and Noor Muhammad Mangrio Goth in District Umerkot.
In pursuance of received information, the team of (ASO) Wing of the Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation (Customs), Regional Office, Hyderabad under the supervision of Deputy Director Raza Naqwi with the assistance of 93 Wing Sindh Rangers and Local Police proceeded to District Umerkot and mounted active surveillance.
The ASO Wing alongwith Rangers and Police raided the godowns and huge quantity of smuggled contraband goods stored in the premises were recovered.
