QUETTA: Customs Intelligence & Investigation Quetta has seized 12.5 tons of monosodium glutamate (made in China), which is prohibited to be imported into the country.

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan is pursuing a rigorous anti-smuggling campaign. In line with the practice, Director I&I Quetta Sami-ul-Haq advised Additional Director Abid Hakro to keep strict vigilance on the movement of goods into the country from Chaman border and its further movement to other provinces.

Information was received that large quantity of monosodium glutamate would be moved through a Hino truck. Deputy Director Dr. Zohaib alerted the team to intercept the smuggled goods.

Subsequently, the suspected vehicle was spotted and stopped near Quetta Airport. The vehicle was checked, which let to recovery of 12.5 tons of the banned goods. The value of the goods is Rs5 million while the value of the seized vehicle is Rs8 million.

A case is lodged and investigation is underway.
