KARACHI: A bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) on Thursday called record of a suit decreed against Telenor Pakistan by a court of Senior Civil Judge.

The suit was filed by District Municipal Corporation, West for recovery of amount of taxes against mobile telephone towers installed by the Defendant company at rate of rupees 30,000 per annum besides installation charges.

Telenor Pakistan impunged the decree through Franklin Law Associates. A counsel from the law firm arguing the appeal submitted that Administrator DMC West has neither the jurisdiction nor the powers to Levy such tax. It was further contended that tax recovery was from tax year 2007 and based on a notification issued in the year 2012 which gives the impugned notification a retrospective effect hence illegal.

Justice Salahuddin Panwhar of SHC after initial arguments by counsel of Franklin Law Associates summoned RNP from the subordinate court concerned while putting of further hearing till Sept 09.
