KARACHI: The CIU of MCC Port Qasim recovered a sum of Rs21.998 million during the month of July from various importers whom had evaded government’s legitimate revenue through mis-declaration and under invoicing.

Additional Collector Mushtaq Shahani had advised Assistant Collector Wardan Ali to keep strict vigilance on the imports and impose measures to avoid revenue leakage. The CIU team led by Principal Appraiser Imran Gul, Appraising Officers Ashfaq Qureshi, Anwer Zaib and Shankar Lal effectively detected many cases of mis-declaration and recovered Rs21.99 million.

The amount has been recovered from M/s Rauf Brothers, M/s Cosmopolitan Agencies, M/s Realex International, </s SGS Traders, M/s Faiz Cargo Pvt Ltd, M/s Cargo Care Pvt Ltd, M/s Shippers Land, M/s Shafay International and M/s Sadaat Enterprises

It is interesting to note that Principal Appraiser Imran Gul who had been quite efficient at CIU and effected many recoveries during two months of his posting at CIU, was transferred.

It is more surprising that Collector Port Qasim Abdul Qadir Memon posted a very inefficient and below average official as Principal Appraiser CIU. Sources said the newly posted Principal Appraiser was not even capable of assessing a GD without the help of colleagues.

Sources said Collector Abdul Qadir Memon was going for a training this Friday and he obliged the recommendation in favor of the said Principal Appraiser. Sources said Memon would leave the charge on Friday and the incumbent officer would have to bear this decision.
