ASO Preventive recovers smuggled blankets worth Rs36 million from Mohib-ur-Rehman’s warehouse

KARACHI: Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of MCC Preventive Karachi raided a warehouse in Shershah area and recovered 8 container loads of smuggled blankets.

Information was received through Chief Collector Saifuddin Junejo regarding presence of smuggled goods in Shershah to Collector Preventive Saquif Saeed. Subsequently, Additional Collector Haroon Waqar Malik formed a team under the supervision of Deputy Collector Muhammad Asim Awan.

The raiding team led by Superintendent Iftikhar Hasan raided the warehouse owned by Mohib-ur-Rehman, who is the father of Habib-ur-Rehman.

The ASO staff recovered 60 tonnes of blankets, which ha been cleared in the garb of used clothing and duty/taxes worth Rs2.5 million had been evaded on each container. The total evasion comes to Rs20 million. The value of each container load is approximately Rs4.5 million, which takes the value of overall seizure to Rs36 million.

The owners of the goods presented a 2018 GD in support of their claim of legal possession, which was not accepted by the ASO staff, as there was specific information of the goods being cleared through mis-declaration.

Despite severe pressure, Chief Collector Enforcement South Saifuddin Junejo has ordered detailed investigation into the case.

Member Customs operation Tariq Huda has appreciated Chief Collector Saifuddin Junejo, Collector Preventive Saquif Saeed, Additional Collector Haroon Waqar Malik, Deputy Collector Muhammad Asim, Superintendents Iftikhar Hasan and Jamal Zia for their untiring efforts against smuggling.

Tariq Huda expressed satisfaction that ASO Preventive was giving a tough time to unscrupulous elements and no leniency was being observed in this regard.
