KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Customs Intelligence & Investigation Karachi has recovered large quantity of smuggled goods being transported to Karachi from Lahore through the cargo train.

Information was received through Director Irfan Javed regarding transportation of huge quantity of smuggled goods from Lahore to Karachi through railways in the wake of ongoing countrywide lockdown.

The ASO staff of the Directorate carried out search of “Super Parcel Goods Train”. As a result; 5 bogies laden with smuggled goods were identified. Thorough checking led to the recovery of betel nut and foreign origin cigarettes worthRs29.02 million.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the goods were booked by 5 different cargo agencies from Lahore. The consignors have been given 3-day time to provide documents proving legal ownership of the goods, and failure to do so would result in lodging of FIR.
